André Merizzi completed a Master's and an Honours degree in Physics at the University of Ottawa, specializing in semiconductors, optics and solid state physics. André furthered his studies at the University of McMaster, completing advanced graduate coursework in classical electromagnetism and laser physics while working in a femtosecond laser lab. André then worked as a part-time physics professor for the University of Ottawa and as a Geophysicist for an aerial geophysical survey company, before commencing his career in patents in 2004.

André developed his patent practice working for boutique intellectual property firms in Montreal and Ottawa, before joining GASTLES in 2010. As a registered Patent Agent (in Canada and the US) working mainly out of Ottawa, he now advises originating clients across the country on patent strategy and portfolio development, working closely with them to ensure their portfolio supports their business objectives. André has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Canada, the US and abroad and regularly advises clients on patent validity and infringement concerns. He works within a broad range of technologies including wireless communications, semiconductors, photonics, software and business methods, physics, as well as mechanical devices and industrial processing and control systems.

André also advises foreign associates in the prosecution of Canadian Patent Applications, with a particular emphasis on computer and business related inventions.

André is currently a member of the Patent Agent Examination Board, and the Information Technology committee of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).

André is fully bilingual, offering worldwide clients representation in French or English.
